From the exhibition catalog: "Clay and charcoal are the raw materials through which Yakira Ament articulates emotions and bodily impressions. Her works draw inspiration from dream states and are transferred to the canvas embodying senses and imagination. The large charcoal drawings reflect the creative body, containing the edges of a liquid-like movement and the expansion of consciousness.
Ament constructs a world of images in dabs of darkness, gaping apertures with glimpses of light.
The layers of material, the expressive forms, and the symbols revealed along the way are the code with which to decipher the relationships at the core of her works."
